Yes, there's a massive part of me that can be bold and courageous…very strong and very assertive and independent, almost to a fault sometimes. Like Kate, I'm afraid to be vulnerable, and I get my back up and I'm strong and I'm not going to let you in. Yet, I’m very sensitive. Emotionally, I bruise very easily. I'm a Leo, and this is very characteristic of our sign.

So, for me there’s a need for balance—fulfilling the sensitive side, letting my guard down, holding back the warrior in me. And I have to be vulnerable which is very hard for me to do, as it is for Kate. So when I play Kate, I always say to people, the only thing that I do to shift from Evangeline to Kate is I grit my teeth. Evangeline doesn't need to be in that place, because I'm surrounded by people who care about me and love me. I have a great job. I have wonderful roommates who take care of me. I have a family who adores me. Kate doesn't have any of that. So the main difference is that she has a lot of Evangeline but she's bearing down and gritting her teeth. She's made her life what it's got to be to get by. That's how I shift into Kate.

I think ironically, the island has softened Kate in a lot of ways. I think that she’s been on the run for so long, and then alone and independent for so long, and able to shelter herself from intimacy and from having people get close to her. Being in that situation now, she’s forced to continually interact with the same people, and she’s forced to be in vulnerable positions with them and get close to them, that she’s been letting a bit of her shell break.

Ana was added this season. How will this affect Kate’s relationship with Jack and Sawyer?

I think there’s an obvious quadrangle that’s forming now, where it used to be more of a love triangle. I have my own theories as to who will be with who, and how it will all end up in the end. But I’m afraid of saying them because I’m afraid that they might come true and then I would have spoilt it for everyone.

Steve - Let's talk about the guys very quickly.. you're more into Sawyer than Jack, aren't you, the character?
Evangeline - At this point, Kate seems to be leaning that way.
Steve - Would you be happy to see Sawyer transmogrify (sp?) into Jack, for instance.. just become one?
Evangeline(laughs) - Well it would make it alot simpler, wouldn't it? I wouldn't have to keep track of who I'm attracted to at what moment and Kate could just focus her attention on one place. Right now it's kind of split, her energies are split and that's very ineffective.
Steve - I totally agree. You know, I'd like to know what Evangeline Lilly would do on a desert island situation. Basically you need to develop your skills, you need to take on what's around you and use it to your advantage.. so if you put your hand into my sack here and take out two items.. tell me what you would use them for..

I used to say all the time that Kate and Sawyer made a more appropriate pair, because they were on a level with one another, whereas with Jack, Kate needed to redeem herself a bit in order to have him see her –in my opinion-- as an equal. L: I always think so too, because opposites attract.

E: I agree. I think that there’s something about Sawyer that’s so much like her, that her love for him is almost like a sibling, you know, like a brother, or like a best friend. I mean, can’t you imagine Kate and Sawyer making the most amazing friends and team and partners? But I don’t know, romantically, I think she hasn’t seen that. Although she felt something when they kissed for sure!

WOW - that was a very insightful interview. She said that the producers tricked her at the end of Season 2, because she thinks they were testing her, to see if she would give anything away or not. They told her she would hook up with one guy, and then when she got the scripts for Season 3, she found out it was the other one. Remember how confused we were by how Evi suddenly started getting all pro-Jate right after Season 2, like she was trying to toe the line? It seemed like such a drastic turnaround after she'd always been a Skater that we suspected there had to be something behind it. And if they'd told her she was going to hook up with Sawyer, she wouldn't have been talking that garbage about "her heart being with Jack" and "Sawyer being like a brother." They totally played her. I think this is another great indication for us.

ANALYSIS I don't for a second believe that the Others are really building anything on that plot of rocky land they have Kate and Sawyer clearing — unless it's a baby nursery. Or maybe the Others are pirates, and they're looking for buried treasure, and they're making Kate and Sawyer do the digging.

Or maybe we need to be parsing this along Biblically symbolic lines. Kate and Sawyer, both fugitives, are Adam and Eve after the Fall of Man. The rock quarry represents God's curse on mankind. And the Others represent the demanding yoke of Old Testament law, which required unquestioning obedience lest the Lord let loose with some of that great vengeance and furious anger of His.

I should just stick with the crazy disembodied-psychic theories, shouldn't I?

THEORY The Others want what Lost fans want — they wanna see Kate and Sawyer do it. And by ''it,'' I mean ''It.'' And by ''It,'' I mean, ''Unprotected It.'' That kiss between the two captives was no accident; the Others know perfectly well what kind of stimulating effect the sight of a hot and sweaty Kate in a revealing sundress would have on Sawyer. So why are the Others doing everything to create circumstances that will drive Kate and Sawyer toward each other, to push their love/hate relationship firmly on the side of love, to get them to finally do the deed?

Ratings.

Oh, and they need to get Kate knocked up. I'm guessing for some reason, the Others are incapable of reproducing. But because they are psychic animal/human hybrids (see last week's ''Animal Magic'' theory), they are instinctively driven toward survival and advancing the species. So they need babies to transfer their consciousness.

Are we going to see a resolution to your love-hate triangle with Jack (Matthew Fox) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) in this season?

I don’t know if you can say resolution because that would mean it’s permanent. But there is some sort of a temporary conclusion because I do end up with someone.

Who do you prefer, Sawyer or Jack?

I always say to people that’s like choosing between my big brother and my little brother.

But who do you want to end up with?

It makes no difference to me. I love both men. They are the two different sides of a female fantasy. It’s either the good guy or the bad boy so whichever side of the fence you lay on is where you are going to want Kate to end up with. I don’t think I am that black and white when it comes to men. I kind of ride the fence. So it can be either one.

Who is it going to be? They told me who it was going to be and then I got the scripts for this season. As I was reading the scripts, I realized it’s the other person so I think they planted that on me to see if I could go the whole summer and not spill it.

That was a passionate kiss between you and Josh in an episode. Was your kiss spontaneous?

We didn’t rehearse. We allowed what’s going to be in the moment because human beings don’t rehearse their kisses before they happen. Especially since we are two characters who have never really kissed each other before -- we have always said that if both the kisses that we’ve done onscreen look awkward and weird, good. It should be. We have been fortunate enough in this last one to have a director who did five takes and that was it, not a thousand times and ruining the spontaneity.

I just told Josh, this one’s up to you because I had to be in charge of the last one because he was strapped to a tree (laughter). So this last one, I told Josh, “I am just going to let you kiss me. I am just going to let it happen because I wouldn’t know what was coming. I wouldn’t know where my hands are going to go or what you’re going to do to me. You’re in charge.” Apparently, he’s good at it. People liked it.

What was the worst, strangest story about you in the tabloids?

The one that really freaked me out was when I recently saw a photo that had been fabricated by superimposing my head and Josh’s head on other people’s bodies. For a minute, I was so freaked out. Where was that photo taken? Then I realized that somebody had fabricated the photo and it made it appear that Josh and I were doing things that in real life, we’d never be doing.

Is there any one of the characters who you'd like to crack open a little more and delve even further into what makes them tick?

cuse : I think that Kate is going to really be an interesting character this year because she is going to finally make a romantic choice and a commitment. This is a character who has been very afraid of commitment. I'm very excited to see the journey of that character this season. I think that Evangeline [Lilly] is really just blossoming as an actor. I'm very excited about what we have planned for her.

DL: And then the other ones are... um Skack? No. What is Sack? Sawyer and Jack?

DL: Um so, we have Jack, he saw Kate and Sawyer together, that's obviously upset him. And that prompted him to...well, in the moment we thought...uh-

CC: Blow her off.

DL: Yeah. Be very angry and say 'I'm out for myself and all I want to do is get off the island.' But it turns out at the end of the episode he has made this sort of bold heroic maneuver, um, jeopardising his own life in order to free Kate and Sawyer. So, you know, that's either incredibly noble, or incredibly stupid. Only time will tell.

CC: I'm gonna go with noble.

DL: I'm gonna go with stupid.

CC: Okay, well, that pretty much-

DL: We'll see- We'll see who's right.

CC: That's been helpful in clarifying things for the audience, hasn't it?

DL: Um...Unfortunately for Jack though, he doesn't know that they're on an island.

CC: Uh, no he doesn't.

DL: So. That's gonna be tricky.

CC: That's gonna be a little tricky, but I think that it's surmountable.

DL: I hope so.

CC: That's awesome.


*DL starts talking about being sick of being on the island with the others, CC says you and the rest of america and promises they are gonna get back to the beach. Very soon. Good beach folk stories coming up. They justify the concentration on the first pod of the season, but in it's entirety the season will make much more sense.*

*Then a question about Locke's discover of Eko's 'Lift up your eyes and look to the north' is this a sign? Now Lock has a cryptic message...Spoiler: and it will propel Locke on a mission.

They are in the middle of writing the 13th episode but are plotted out to the end of the season. Some interesting twists and turns. And fairly definitive answers to those questions.

Does Kate run? Yep, she does.

A funny question which was obviously sarcastic about Kate's backstories and needing to know if she broke the law and is running from something.

CC's sarcastic response was cute: I guess if you blow your father up that might not be an illegal act, as having sex with someone doesn't mean you are necessarily committed to them.


They start joking about Kate's exploits in the 'Zombie season'. How she runs faster than any other zombie. Damon points out that she IS a Zombie though.

Damon: Who do you think Zombie Kate would choose? Zombie Sawyer or Zombie Jack?

CC: I think, you know, when she's a Zombie, she's actually gonna go for Zombie Desmond.

*more chuckling*

DL: Who's brains will Zombie Kate eat? That's what I want to know.

CC: Yeah, that's awesome.

*Apparently Kate was just putting on liking tacos and wanting to have 'taco night' it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Some talk about the show trying to convert viewers to christianity, and they talk about catholicism and religious themes in the show. And defend their choices in making the show a spiritual show. The characters are not just physically lost, but lost in their lives. Not preaching, but they like that everyone is connected, and that there may be a higher power at work and it's seen through the prism of the individual characters experiences.*

Spoiler: Assume there will be a season 4, at the very least.

*Some poster about the writers insulting their intelligence, a rant about whether there is a second island or not. They basically defend their contention that a second island really does exist.*

CC: I know, I know. I know. That's a good episode. Um, but um...

DL: We put this in the same category of people who ask why don't we ever see Jack Bauer go to the bathroom on 24, if the show is told in real time. And the answer is 'Becaue you don't'.

CC: Yeah. Exactly.

DL: You think you do, but you don't.

DL: There seems to be a recurring theme here.

CC: There does seem to be. *chuckles* 'Our IQ seems to have dropped very perceptibly since our last podcast. Um, um, not only was that sex scene ridiculous, but the cage Kate and Sawyer effed in was not at the same cage that Sawyer was locked up in. Once the clothes came off did you see how much bigger and more roomy that cage was? How did the waterhole bearfeeding machinery disappear all of a sudden so they had enough room to roll around. And why all of a sudden did these two's hormones get excited, certainly there's been plenty of opportunities prior to coming to Island 2 for these two to get it on. At least in a cleaner environment.

DL: Wow, first off. Kate and Sawyer specifically reserved the honeymoon cage. *CC titters* So that explains the extra added space and the release of the machinery. No, I'll be honest with you. We have the dailies, they shot that scene in exactly the same..

CC: Same cage.

DL: Same set that Sawyer's been in all season,

CC: That's right.

DL: and we apologise that uh, that you think that again that we are insulting your intelligence, all we can do is say that we didn't.

CC: Okay.

DL: For real.

Sawyer from Lost tell us in an exclusive interview how it feels to kiss Kate

Between theories, many male fans of Lost must think in another mystery: "How it feels to kiss Kate?" Well, we have the answer - I mean, Josh Holloway has it. The actor that plays Sawyer gives us an exclusive interview and, between other things, he tells us how it was to shoot the kiss with Evangeline Lily.

“At the time of shooting the scene I didn’t think about anything! (laughters) . The secret to make a good romantic scene is to know how to communicate with your partner and feel if you are both in the same mood. Evie is wonderful, very open artistically. She is the kind of person who thinks ‘let’s do it right!’ and this is what matters: to make it work. This is great and liberating”

It’s a good thing the actor thinks it’s so easy to shoot romantic scenes with Evie because they will intensify since the love triangle between Sawyer, Kate and Jack will be even more prominent during the third season.

"I think this possibility very interesting. It's good to be able to work with romance in a character that initially didn't want to get involved with anybody", says Holloway.

Josh Holloway also told us that Sawyer, one of the characters that is constantly being physically abused in Lost, will keep suffering in the next season. Not that he thinks this is bad.

"It has been fun, because I love express myself physically and I have plenty opportunities to do it in Lost. I shouldn't show it so clearly that I can take the beatings because I think they love to do it (laughters). Sometimes it can be tiring to get dirty and take beats all day, but in this kind of acting you're exposed and it really knock down any arrogance you may have it".

Holloway says Sawyer will reveal himself even more – and we will end up seeing that he is not really a bad guy. “Actually, Sawyer just has his own particular way of living and that’s it. And there is no reason for him to be a jerk with the other survivors because now there are actual enemies to fight” he says referring to the Others.

At least in Holoway's opinion, the "enemies" aren't necessarily villains: "The Others represents another perspective of Lost. If you were born and raised in the island, you'll have another POV, other than the survivors. The Others looks bad because we don't know who they really are, and we will see more of their human side"

Josh Holloway comments the experience of being taken in captivity by them.

"I love this kind of separation that Sawyer, Kate and Jack are living. Besides bring a new dynamics to the series, I'm intensifying my relationship with Matthew Fox and Evie and the relationship between the characters also gets deeper. And work with new actors like Michael Emerson (Henry Gale) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet, a new character) has been amazing".

It's clear that, with all the love between Kate and Sawyer- with passionate kisses and one love night - we had to ask if Josh Holloway thinks that the romance between Kate and Sawyer will work out - and the actor's answer is in a way surprising.


“The love triangle between Sawyer Kate and Jack will never brake. Like any other involvement of this kind it can only ‘soften’ a little before it soon intensifies again. That’s the formula.”

But he can at least tell us if the con man will be able to escape from the Others: "Well, I'm not going to be in captivity 'till the end of the season. Come on, give me some credit! They can't cage this animal here for such a long time! (laughters)".

There were two moments in season 3 of ‘Lost’ that I felt were worth mentioning. The first is Eko’s death. I want to say that it was memorable because it was so shocking but the truth of the matter is, I’m still frustrated by the whole thing. His death seemed to come out of nowhere and not knowing what the hell is up with that black cloud of smoke (that apparently has the power to beat a man to death) is preventing me from truly appreciating the shock factor of the scene.

The other memorable ‘Lost’ moment of the season was Sawyer and Kate’s steamy sex scene. I say “steamy” because the two have been living outdoors in cages for days (or was it weeks?). While it was nice to see them get all hot and heavy with each other, I couldn’t help but wonder just how smelly the whole thing would be if it were real. From the moment they first laid eyes on each other in the wreckage of Flight 815, there's been a slowly building passion burning between Kate Austen and James "Sawyer" Ford.

Both damaged souls with shady pasts, they are fiercely independent even in the wilds of their new home in the jungle. Despite being stranded in the middle of the Pacific, they hold fast to their adopted armor, keeping their distance from those who reach out to them. Yet their metaphorical fences don't apply to one another, as they've connected in a smoldering dance, testing one another's comfort zones while revealing small increments of their true selves. Be it a sexy kiss by a tree, or Sawyer's nickname for Kate of "Freckles," this pair of kindred souls have been captivating one another and Lost audiences since the show began.

While there may be many fans who were hoping for Jack and Kate to finally admit their feelings to each other, that wasn't the story that unfolded in the first third of season three. While the three were held by the Others, it was Kate and Sawyer - stuck in their cages across from one another - that bonded over exhausting manual labor and fear, as their imminent death loomed over them. Terrified for one another, and emotionally and physically broken, the pair finally succumbed to their feelings and gave into their mutual passion. It's been a long time coming for actors Evangeline Lilly and Josh Holloway. The duo have worked alongside one another for two and a half years now, both maturing in their craft as they've been able to evolve their characters together.

Season three has already provided Lilly and Holloway with plenty of surprises and challenges. Left uncertain of where this year would take them at the end of season two, Lilly says she was immediately relieved upon returning to work. "When I first started reading the scripts, I was really, really excited because I had told [Lost magazine] that between seasons one and two I had hoped and expected to see stronger sides of Kate come out and it hadn't happened. But this season, the ultimate happened where they actually did go exactly where I was hoping they would go." For Holloway, Sawyer's predicament brought to mind some deja vu. "If you notice, there were some similarities between where Sawyer was emotionally in the beginning of season two and where he was emotionally in the opening of season three," Holloway explains. "Sawyer, Michael, and Jin thought they were actually captured by the Others, before they found out later that Eko, Ana-Lucia and that whole gang were actually survivors from the plane as well. In the season three opening, Jack, Kate and Sawyer are in captivity by the actual Others. Since we ended season two on a cliffhanger with the three of them being captured, I wasn't as surprised as I was excited when I found us in the Others' camp. I thought the writers did an amazing job in how they introduced the Others. There were just so many questions about them and to start finding bits and pieces of answers was extremely exciting."

The captivity storyline also allowed the actors to explore the deepest issues that plague both Kate and Sawyer - their rabid fear of exposing their vulnerable sides to the world. Instead of hinting at their issues, as touched upon in their flashbacks, the cages allowed the writers and the actors to jump right into the emotional fray. "The very first episode, Kate was separated from the boys, so to speak, and she was left to her own devices," Lilly explains about her scenes in A Tale of Two Cities. "Looking Ben directly in the eyes and facing down what is a 'creepy monster,' so to speak. Ben is depicted in a way that is really quite terrifying - even for the men that are larger than him and more imposing than him physically. Ben has such a psychological presence and so I really wanted to play those moments where she was obviously frightened and vulnerable. However, despite those weaknesses and fears, she was able to rise up and face him head on. I think it was a defining moment at the beginning of the season that would reflect who she was going to be and how she was going to behave over the next few episodes, until we see them leave the cages. I think [the writers] wrote Kate in such a beautiful way. She has continued to be more and more vulnerable, and reveal more and more of herself, but she's returned to her strength. I think that is true healing when you don't have to become weak, but you are willing to become vulnerable."

Surprisingly, one of the tools the writers used to shed the emotional layers for Kate was putting her in a frilly dress. Lilly laughs and offers, "Yeah, it's funny because they have been trying to get Kate in a dress for a really long time. I have perpetually fought the issue because my creative standpoint is that I am the 'defender of this character.' She is my responsibility and I have said, 'I cannot make sense creatively of Kate choosing to wear a dress.' Yet the producers have wanted to put her in one in the flashbacks. Finally they found a way that creatively, it made complete sense to put Kate in a dress and for the first time ever, I didn't have anything to say about it. I was like, 'OK, that makes sense, and it would be a clever way to try and break Kate down.' I thought it was really hilarious when they found a creatively integral way to get Kate in a dress!" Yet the dress did exactly as hoped, not only for Kate, but for Lilly too. "I think it really threw me for a loop for the first little while. I was very much out of my element. Even walking onto the set with all of the crew - who are so used to me playing Kate in that very rough and tumble way - to walk onto set in a dress was unnerving. I actually had to go through a similar thing that Kate went through. I had to buck up and maintain my performance and the character regardless of what she was wearing. I also had to overcome it and not feel insecure and uncomfortable and do my job."

According to Lilly, she also feels the writers hit the right notes metaphorically with the cages. "When we started the season, I called up Damon and said, 'How brilliant are you?' You have now taken Kate and Sawyer and put both of them into a situation that is their worst nightmare. More than anything in the world, they are afraid to be caged. They have spent their lives avoiding it. In Josh's flashback, you see that Sawyer has been in prison. We don't know at this point if [Kate's] ever been in prison and broken out, but she's devoted her life to avoiding being in prison and now she's caged."

Over the first six episodes of season three, the pair fight their circumstances, and they eventually come to terms with where they are and what they will do to protect one another. With that mutual understanding of what they mean to each other, the stage was set for that moment many fans were waiting for - Kate and Sawyer finally making love. Holloway admits he's been waiting for the moment for ages. Echoing fan sentiments, he says, "The love triangle between Jack, Kate, and Sawyer has been going on for a while now. Naturally, after a certain amount of time invested, it becomes necessary for the audience to see some kind of resolution." For Lilly, she says it was a moment that finally felt earned. "By virtue of being caged together, in a way, they were forced to intimacy. That has an effect on a human being, to face your worst nightmare has an effect on you, which is unsettling and unnerving and strips you bare. I feel that is a huge part of how Kate became vulnerable enough to cry out that she loves a man and actually offer him her kiss, instead of letting him kiss her. I think because she was stripped so bare, when Sawyer says, 'I was trying to give you hope,' the idea that in all of this hell he was trying to protect Kate broke her down. It opened her up to offer him this little nugget of love, which was her kiss. Even after she did it, he asks, 'What was that for?' and she says, 'I don't know,' when clearly she knows. Obviously, the actual answer is, 'I love you, and I don't know how to say it because I am afraid to say it.' He is so much like her that when he she says that, he hears, 'I love you,' and then kisses her back. I think the writers did it so beatifully because it was real and grown up."

While many fans expected the sex, the exchange of the word "love" between the two was more surprising than the actual deed. "The reality of when you first say 'I love you" to somebody, in my experience, it's never some grandiose thing. You've been wanting to say it for so long that by the time it comes out of your mouth, it's the most obvious thing in the world." But the actual words coming from Sawyer's mouth, in earnest, was still a huge moment. Holloway concurs. "It was tricky. As we all know, 'I love you' is just not something a guy like Sawyer would normally say to anyone. But then again, different things and different situations do affect people signficantly at times. Like when you come out alive from a really horrible car accident. What do you do next? You call your wife, husband, family, friends, whoever, just to let them know how much you care about them and that you're OK. That is human nature. In this specific case, Sawyer has survived a plane crash, been stranded on this mysterious island and experienced things that even in his wild law-breaking days, he'd never imagined experiencing. That type of 'out of this world' experience brings out a lot of different feelings in any human being. This [love] scene is a prime example of that."

With months of shooting scenes almost exclusively with one another, Lilly and Holloway survived some of their most consistently emotional scenes side-by-side. "The pressure cooker is a good analogy because we have been in one," Lilly muses. "This show always mimics reality and reality always mimics this show. Josh and I have worked together a lot in the first two seasons, but not always. There may be a scene with Sawyer and Kate, and Jack will interrupt, or Kate will be defending Charlie from Sawyer, but we are usually interacting with the group as well. This was the first time where Josh and I walked in not knowing what the story or the dynamic would be. We were thrown into a situation where almost every single scene is just Josh and I. The scenes that involved other people were new people. These are new actors we are working with for the first time, so [at first] they are ultimately perfect strangers. Josh and I were the only familiar faces we got to see on set. There is an element of Kate and Sawyer that got thrust together because they were all each other had. In the same way, Josh and I have really had to trust one another and challenge one another because we are completely dependent on one another. I feel when we are doing scenes that that blends into the characters."

The first arc of the new season revealed more of Kate's troubled past in the episode I Do. It turns out Kate was in love and married before, but due to her past, she has to run away again from the life she wants to protect herself from. Lilly says it was an important facet of Kate to discover. "What I saw was that she had fallen in love [deeply] enough to marry a man, which for Kate is huge! The level and depth of her love for this guy must have gone really deep because she actually supplanted herself out of the situation and created a whole other version of herself to love him back. It was a huge sacrifice. What I thought it represented more than anything is the fact that she can never really love someone as simply herself - she has always had to replace or substitute who she really is for something else in order to find love."

That revelation into Kate's psyche set the stage for one of Kate's favorite moments of the season so far. "I really think a defining moment is when she climbs back into the cage. It said so much about Kate. There was so much in that: sex, love, hatred, vulnerability, and a complete closing-off. There were so many things that didn't make sense and yet made perfect sense that opposed one another, that I think it was an amazing representation of who she is and how torn she is inside. She can never seem to settle down with one of them [Sawyer or Jack]. Her actions often shock us because you can never know what to expect of her, or what side of her will rear its head, or what combination of those sides will create a really unpredictable action on her part."

But where does that leave Kate and Sawyer. Holloway laughs. "Are you kidding me? After all that time eating fish biscuits and being caged by the Others? I think he needs to relax, have some cocktails and socialize at the beach. But let's not forget we're on Lost. And we have some of the most adventurous, brilliant writers. Who knows what joy ride they'll take us on next?"

The long standing love triangle between Kate and her potential love interests, Jack and Sawyer, seems to have reached a conclusion, at least for now, as Kate and Sawyer ended up sleeping together recently. Asked if he was happy to see a resolution to that story, Holloway said, "Finally! I was like, 'Come on… Yes!'" More seriously, he added, "It was important to us, because it took so long, to really make it something different because you know, on a show and a situation like that, the sex… Well with Michelle [Rodriguez], it was very animalistic, and fast and furious. We discussed that, Evangeline [Lilly] and I, and to have moments in between it of intimacy. Not just constant physical actions. We've already seen one Sawyer flashback episode this season, but as to whether they'll be another, Holloway said, "I don't know yet. I'm assuming there probably will be, but there was only one last year." However, Holloway explained that when it came to the reasons for only having a single flashback in season two, "I loved it. It's all about the integrity of the show. Last year, the second episode of the year was written as mine. And we did three days of production, and the writers were like, 'We don't like this.' It was out of line with the integrity of the story. For Michael, Walt has just gotten taken. So the story, naturally, should be his, because of the emotional impact of that. And at first they thought, 'We can disregard it a little bit,' and then they realized, 'No, we can't!' And they trashed three days of production, which is not cheap, for the integrity of the story. I loved them for that. And it became Michael's [episode]."

Holloway said he felt that both in terms of the integrity for what is right for the show, and in terms of what priorities they have in the real world, he felt in good hands with his producers. "From the beginning, this group of artists have been really amazing," he observed. "I remember on the pilot, we had 150 people working, and J.J.'s [Abrams] daughter fell and bumped her head, and had to go to the hospital and check for a concussion. And he got the phone call, and promptly looked at everybody and said, 'That's a wrap! See you tomorrow.' Because his principals and his priorities are in the right place. I loved that."

One memorable bit from the first six episodes was Sawyer's discovery of the fish shaped biscuits that would be rewarded from a machine in his cage, when a proper series of actions was completed. We asked Holloway how the fish biscuits were to actually eat, and he smiled, saying, "They're not bad, actually! They're kind of like butter cookies. They make them out of butter cookies, and that's it. I was eating them. Pretty tasty! And Evangeline, the funniest thing… I've said, she's such a warrior… I had to keep throwing her that biscuit, and she'd miss a few, and she'd just pick it up, brush it off, and... [Holloway mimes throwing a biscuit in his mouth] I was like, 'Yeah!'"

"There's a lot of comedy coming," he says. Sawyer will be spending more time with Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim).

Kate’s “go ahead and pick one already” dilemma got a little easier. For now. When pushed to reveal her true feelings, lest Sawyer suffer, Kate admitted that she loved the con man. Now, normally declarations of affection under duress don’t count, but this looked genuine. At least it did for the legions of fan-forum types who are drooling to see those two together.

Carlton Cuse claims that Jack and Kate are the "ultimate" relationship on Lost? If by "ultimate" he means awkward, cliche, and just plain boring, then I guess he's right. But I'll take the sizzling passion and layered angst of Kate and Sawyer, any day of the week.
